Embarking on this project is simultaneously the most exciting and terrifying thing I’ve ever done. My husband has a remarkable amount of courage so he’s not at all overwhelmed. He’s pure excitement! I, however, am a bit more reserved with my excitement a keep looking for reassurance, and signs, that we haven’t lost our minds!

You see, I have a strong need for security. Financial, physical, all of it. Knowing this about myself I work hard to balance feeling secure with taking risks, facing my fears, and flexing my courage muscles. Not wanting to have any regrets in life pushes me out of my comfort zone. And, along the way, I tend to notice signs about the correctness of the choices I’m making. I chalk this up to one of my greatest strengths – Connectedness.

Knowing Your Strengths

If you’re familiar with Clifton StrengthsFinder you know about the 34 strengths. My top 5 strengths are Responsibility, Discipline, Input, Connectedness, and Individualization. (I joke that I don’t have any of the “sexy” strengths). Regardless, it’s amazing how accurately they describe me.

Basically, Connectedness is a soul feeling that everything is connected and happens for a reason. A belief that we’re all part of something larger. It is knowing that there is a purpose beyond our humdrum lives. Experiences, big and small, support this sense of connection for me. These experiences create a sense of awe for me and continue to surprise me. My Connectedness strength shows up all over the place. It’s my compass. It may not be sexy but it’s supremely supportive.

The Path Forward

This week we’re working on the land we purchased near Caddo Gap, AR, in the Ouachita Mountains. We have basic things to do like put in a driveway and clear enough land to see what the footprint of the future building site may look like. My husband and our friend are braving the heat, humidity, and ticks to get a better view. While making their way up the trails they came across this: a cairn, placed under a small pine tree.

God only knows who placed the cairn or how long ago. What I know is that it is a sign! My Connectedness tells me so. The pursuit of this project, the name of our property, and our subsequent business ventures are all part of the big picture. I am being taken further in and led home.

How much more reassurance could a girl ask for?
